Background
Pathway models at WikiPathways are based on findings reported in the scientific literature. With only a few exceptions, each node and interaction should come from a citable source. In most cases, one or two publications account for the entire pathway. In other cases, information from dozens of publications come together to support a single pathway. WikiPathways allows you to add citations to the overall pathway and to individual nodes and interactions.
Challenge
Add a literature reference to your pathway. Literature references can be added for specific entities (genes, proteins, metabolites etc), specific interactions, or to the pathway as a whole. In this example, we will do the latter.
- Launch PathVisio. Open your draft pathway from the previous step under File > Open.
- Once you have your pathway loaded, double-click on the textbox in the upper-left that includes title and organism (Pathway Information area).
- Select the Literature tab and click the New reference button.
- Enter PubMed ID "12235098" and click Query PubMed.
- Notice how the publication fields are filled in automatically and click OK.
- This is how you add a reference for the whole pathway, or a large portion of it. Feel free to add references to individual nodes or edges by same steps, starting with double-clicking on the element.
- When you are done, save your work as a GPML file under File > Save As.
