Background
Now things really get interesting... Are you ready to contribute to a scientific database? WikiPathways is a wiki dedicated to biological pathways. The curated and approved pathway models at WikiPathways are used in research, data visualization and education. There are thousands of pathways already modeled and released, but there are many more thousands yet to be captured. This is where YOU come in!
Create Accounts
WikiPathways.org relies on GitHub, which means a GitHub account is required for WikiPathways authors. Right now, an additional dedicated WikiPathways account is ALSO required, which you will use this in all subsequent WikiPathways Academy challenges. The process below describes how to create both of these accounts.
- Create a GitHub account, unless you already have one.
- Create a WikiPathways account on the WikiPathways wiki site.
- Before you can upload a pathway to WikiPathways from PathVisio, your WikiPathways account permissions have to be updated. Send an email to kristina DOT hanspers AT gladstone DOT ucsf DOT edu with your WikiPathways account name, and we will update permissions for your account to enable you to upload pathways to WikiPathways.
Once you have contributed to an existing pathway or authored a new pathway that has been reviewed and approved, a user page will be automatically created for you at WikiPathways.org. This page can be customized and improved to display information of your choosing. See Customizing Your User Page for details. Note that customizing your user page is not a required step in this learning path.
